The Saint-Élie trail, nestled in the heart of the permanent state forest, offers a 2.5 km walk. Managed by the Territorial Collectivity of French Guiana, this family-friendly, nature-focused and educational trail invites visitors to explore the humid tropical forest with ease. The commune of Sinnamary has regularly contributed to its development and promotion.
This trail plays a role in scientific research on forest ecosystems and the hydrology of the region. It illustrates the changes that occur when forest reclaims land previously used for pasture, agriculture, or orchards, providing a living insight into forest dynamics.
From Cayenne, take the RN1. Turn left onto the Saint-Élie track at the Saint-Élie junction, located about 3.5 km from the town of Sinnamary. Continue for 5 km, just past the scarlet ibis roundabout: the trail is at km 15.5, on the right side of the track.
