The Rorota Trail is a popular hiking trail located in Rémire-Montjoly, in French Guiana. This 6 km route winds between the departmental private domain and several privately owned properties. It is accessible to all levels — children and adults alike — though it is not entirely flat. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover the lush natural environment of the region.
The trail passes through lush forest, where many species of trees, birds, and insects can be observed. Along the way, you will also discover three water reservoirs: Rorota, Lalouette, and Rémire. At certain points, the route offers beautiful views over the sea and the Rémire islets.
The trail is open year-round. It is important to bring water, comfortable walking shoes, and appropriate clothing. Respecting the local wildlife and flora is also strongly recommended.
To reach the trail, take the beach road in the direction of Dégrad des Cannes. After 3 km, a small road branches off to the right, a few hundred metres past the Auberge des Plages; a signpost helps you find the way. Park at the end of the road, by Lake Saccharin. The trail begins on the left.
