The Roura–Kaw area is one of the wettest in French Guiana, home to the flooded savannas of Kaw, commonly known as the Kaw Marshes. Crique Gabriel, known for its peaceful waters, winds through the Roura lands and is a favourite among kayakers. Lac Pali lies upstream of this creek, roughly half an hour from Cayenne.
A few hours of paddling reveal marshland, mangrove and a riverine forest of moutouchi-rivière and bâche palms. The route forms a vegetal labyrinth where time seems to stand still. Numerous plants — including orchids clinging to the trees — add splashes of colour to this forest. The creek takes its name from the leader of a group of escaped enslaved people who once took refuge there.
Lac Pali is accessible only by water, so watercraft are required. Canoes and pirogues can be rented from Loca-pirogue, or you can hire a guide. The outing takes a few hours.
There are two launch points depending on how far you want to paddle. At the landing near the Roura bridge: the route is longer but lets you navigate the full length of Crique Gabriel. At the Eskol landing, further upstream: the paddle to Lac Pali is shorter. To reach the Eskol landing, take the Kaw road from Roura, then turn left onto a wide laterite track and follow it to the end.
Lac Pali is accessible only by water, paddling up Crique Gabriel. You need a boat: canoes and pirogues can be rented from Loca-pirogue, or you can use a guide service.
There are two launch options: the landing near the Roura bridge for a longer route covering all of Crique Gabriel, or the Eskol landing further upstream for a shorter paddle to the lake.

Lac Pali is about half an hour from Cayenne, upstream along Crique Gabriel, in the commune of Roura.
