Chutes Fourgassier : un joyau naturel

Overview

The Fourgassier falls are located in Roura, French Guiana, in the heart of the forest. The site consists of several natural pools and cascades of clear water, surrounded by dense vegetation. Following the stream, you reach the Orapu, a river in French Guiana and a right-bank tributary of the Comté.

Practical Information

• Access: Kaw road, about twelve kilometres from Roura and roughly 40 minutes from Cayenne, then 2 km of laterite forest track. The track is usually passable in an ordinary car but becomes tricky after heavy rain. Free parking and free access.
• Two trails leave the car park: a fifteen-minute loop with wooden steps and footbridges leading straight to the falls, and a second route following the creek for about 45 minutes.
• Equipment: hiking shoes, swimwear, a towel and drinking water.
• Respect: protected site — leave no trace.

Getting There

The Fourgassier falls are reached via the Kaw road, about twelve kilometres from Roura and roughly 40 minutes from Cayenne, then 2 km along a forest track with a car park at the end. Bring suitable footwear and drinking water to walk to the pools.
